Agreed. I made a point of watching Paxman, Prestedge and DSY last night throughout the game. Pax impressed because he (like Lewis) was always looking for the ball, even in tight situations, so maybe he should be given a bit of slack when he loses it at times. My main concern is he can get knocked off the ball rather easily, but no questioning his commitment. Prestedge started deep and his, at times, poor distribution made him look vulnerable. Natural athlete he ain't, but put a good shift and grew into the game, getting forward more and became a real threat. Great shot off the bar and got his reward with another fine looking effort (from the Town End) that now seems included a deflection. Good game. DSY much better down the middle than out wide. Shades of 4-5-1 in our line up, with Loza and Orsei showing real pace down the flanks. Gills not that impressive, but certainly not slow. Hence, no complaints, but with Pigott gone we only have one central striker, so need a second. All this without using Lewis, so one would think he and Paxman need time to properly bond, then with two wide players we would have a very mobile and quick midfield, Reason being the other with Prestedge in reserve. Must mention Twumasi, who was again superb, while Hare doing a decent job alongside the ever solid Wynter. Will need Magnus back for the brickoutsidetoilet brigade though.

I agree with you sps, I've never understood the mentality of going to a football match to start a fight or do something stupid that gets you kicked out and or arrested. I understand the banter between the sets of fans with the chants etc especially some of the witty ones and join in myself with the singing. I do find it funny seeing some of the knuckle dragging uneducated idiots, gesticulating for a fight taking a few steps and then quickly look around to see when the stewards are going to jump in and save them, all rather pathetic to see so called grown men acting like this I think I do understand the mentality. The overly aggressive person's behaviour is a manifestation of their deep-seated feelings of inadequacy. The cause of their feelings of inadequacy are usually either poor social skills, a sub-normal level of intelligence, but usually both. These feelings of inadequacy fill them with a need to gain 'respect'. However, due to the combination of the aforementioned lack of social skills and sub-normal level of intelligence they unfortunately reach the incorrect conclusion that respect is gained by being an agressive idiot, which, ironically achieves the opposite effect. However, being slow on the uptake, they continue to repeat the same behaviour, not understanding that to the vast majority of the population they merely look like what they are, a tool. Yes PS. A good example of group psychological behaviour, where no one individual takes responsibility for his or her actions, and is not expected to do so by the group, so long as they are generally behaving in the same way, and/or to posture to gain social status within the group (feelings of inadequacy - as you state). In this example, general social morals are absent within the group. This is what Jung observed as 'a group behaving as a giant hydrocephalus' (probably a politically incorrect statement today). I disagree with the general sub-normal intelligence statement however, there have been TV documentaries showing some members of hooligan groups going to football matches in the 1970s, just for the fight, that would, otherwise be described as intelligent, and socially responsible within general society, when away from the status driven group looking to kick the .... out of the opposing supporters. Solicitors, bankers etc.- well maybe not bankers, only joking!!-, are some examples.

What a different feel to the season from about a month ago. 3 attacking players gone. Progress in two cups. League campaign a bit flat but not totally dead. Now a situation where 4 or 5 players have the chance to prove themselves... or play for Margate next season. But not in the desperate climate of a relegation battle. Interesting times.

Wonder if there are others around who will be disappointed if this is Paxo's last match for the Stones I certainly don't want to see him go, but he needs to show what he can do more consistently. Was superb tonight. Must have been watching a different game to me then.
A lot of enthusiasm and running, especially closing them down at the back. Could be wrong but my initial reaction to his goal was that he mis hit it and got lucky after a superb take on his chest.
But far too many times lost possession to stronger opponents. Seemed to confirm to me why he's not in our usual starting line-up.

Irrespective of the opposition or that it's seen as a 'mickey mouse cup' I felt that was one of the most enjoyable performances from the Stones for quite a while.
Didn't sense the 'usual fear' and we seemed to want to play forward at pace at every opportunity.
So, enjoyed the performance, the result just made it better and the fact it was a Gillingham IX added the icing on the night.

Was superb tonight. As someone from on high commented to me, Gillingham gave Paxo a lot more room to play than is usual from a pressing NL side, hence his chance to shine. Will he retain his place against Hessenthaler's Eastleigh, I wonder.

How many would have swapped this win for a win earlier this month against Ebbsfleet? Genuine question. For me that will be a massive NO. Ebbsfleet is a local derby game but just not in the same category as Gillingham. I've stood in godforsaken place dreaming that one day we would play and beat Gillingham again. My biggest sadness is that I could not attend last night. The radio had to be an enjoyable second best.

Very enjoyable to beat The Gills but would have swapped it for 3 points in the league whoever the opposition.

Would take the win over Gills everytime. The best Maidstone home performance seen in ages, kept the ball down and passed it through the middle. Massive credit to Jay as well for putting out a strong side, knowing how important it was to most Maidstone fans. Those who didn't go missed one of the best games at the Gallagher so far. Still got the grin factor today.

Well done in increasing that buffer zone in the Elvis End. Because from the stand I could clearly see dozens and dozens of there lot taking little attention to the game simply baying for a row. There were some proper knuckle draggers in there. Beating the lot over the hill is better then 99% of league wins obviously.

Gills fan here- have to say, despite the loss, i enjoyed that more than I have most football matches in recent years. It's a great positive having such a big crowd for a KSC match - the 588 we took was impressive and the atmosphere was great for the whole 90 minutes. Your new stand is great.
Shows the appetite for this match. No doubt it'll be a league two fixture in three or four years time.

If it is a more permanent fixture one day, cgills, then I will happily come and have a pint (well fizzy water probably) with you. In 1997 I could only dream of such a fixture and last night it came true. It's a shame I was working. Hopefully we will see you soon.

Very enjoyable to beat The Gills but would have swapped it for 3 points in the league whoever the opposition. That sounds like a quote from any bland premiership fan/manager/player. If we get relegated I shall still enjoy the fact we beat the Gills.
