Speaking as 1 of the seated dead (season ticket holder in main stand) i cannot sing along or bounce and can just about manage a mewling sound as i stumble morosely towards the exit after about 65 minutes in a gaunt shuffling parody of a human being. Having said that i am well up for the cup tomorrow and am looking forward to having a few beers in Nam

I'm gan to Cheltenham tomorrow but, given that I will just about reach double figures this season on attendance, I could not really proclaim to be a proper fan any more. More of an occasional bystander these days

Is the Dyson Hot and Cool a proper fan?

I prefer the word supporter to fan. A fan is a teenage girl screaming hysterically over a boy band. In reality we're all proper supporters because we all get behind the team in our own way. Some bounce and sing and generally make loads of noise, some are more restrained, but we all want the same thing at the end of the game and that is a Stones win.

What I don't like is the supporters who say 'ii have been watching the stones for 65 years, and stood round every mud soaked pitch in kent in my time, and these 'new' fans don't know they're born etc, etc,......

Only one person regularly posts stuff like that and I'm almost (but not entirely) sure he does it as a windup.

Not as bad as the supporters that say they have been watching the Stones for 65 years and fail to mention they never attended games between 1992 and 2012.

Well the last time we played in the proper rounds of the FA Cup with a Saturday 3pm kick-off was in Round 2 on 7th December 1991 [lost 2-1 at home (Watling St) to Kettering]

I was at that game, but don't remember it at all.
So, what about those of us whose memories are fucked - does that stop us being Proper Fans?

AND...
I got a migraine on the way back from Sheffield (on the train that took FOREVER to get back to Maidstone).
So I have suffered greatly for my team.
Does that make me a PROPER FAN?

Yeh me too. Dirty scum that came down with them that day. And, as a consequence, my respect for Kettering disappeared. Even though we'd had a good harmless rivalry for many years and had been to Rockingham Rd to watch the Stones on at least couple times before that.

Returning to the OP and risking a whoosh... everyone is. Like any other leisure activity, eg running or wine drinking, people have their own ways of pursuing it.
