Saw BBC local news tonight, where Paul Scally was interviewed, saying he was a bit sceptical as to why players had taken about 30 years to now go public about the sexual abuse they had suffered. Isn't it obvious why it was so hard to go public you complete idiot.

Surely playing for (or watching) Gillingham is abuse enough?

One of the few good things to come out of the story about sexual abuse in football is the exposure and ridicule heaped upon the likes of Bristow and Scally (if he did suggest that) and their antiquated opinions. Men with views like theirs (if Scally did say that) are the very reason so few victims have come forward before now.

Has this man got a brain? No.
He is a wart in the armpit of life. (Gillingham is the armpit of life)

If Gillingham / the FA have anything about them, they will take action against him. He may be chairman, but he is only custodian of the club.

I've been unfortunate to work with victims of sexual abuse and this is quite a common thing that people do say. It is an extremely ignorant statement but also all too common. it's only when you come into contact do you see the absolute fear that can cripple them for years after the abuse has finished. Sometimes all it takes is one or two people to come forward to show the others that there isn't actually anything to fear anymore. You'll always get ignorant people who have been fortunate to have never had anything like this happen. It's so easy for them to say what they would have done but without being there all it is is a throw away comment and one that makes him look like a complete bell end.

Isn't it obvious why it was so hard to go public you complete idiot. If there were a law against idiocy I would be on the blower to the police this morning to have Mr Scally arrested. There isn't but if Mr Scally wishes to contact me at some point I will be happy to start explaining such things to him in more depth although it appears, just from reading this thread, that you don't necessarily need to work with victims of sexual abuse to start understanding the reasons they don't go to the police. Mr Scally may be sceptical of victims and motives. I am scathing of people who commit crime. strangestandardsI hate seeing any form of child abuse be it sexual, emotional, neglect or, in the following case, physical ohdear

As an aside what would you call the wives and girlfriends of the Scally family?

All good comments above. For anyone who wants to be as flabbergasted as me, you can 'catch up' with the Scally interview which was on BBC South East News around 6.45pm ish yesterday (Monday 5th)
