I know someone on this board who would have a field day with the grammar and syntax. Indeed so ! Some fascinating insights on the mechanics of being a Pub Landlord though, cost, duration etc. Sad to see ' The Railway Hotel ' @ Wateringbury also featured and in need of new tenants - much more of a viable venue ?

Similar insights on the Shepherd Neame tenancies page. Including how many barrels of beer, and gallons of wine and spirits sold over previous years. Who measures wine by the gallon? www.shepherdneame.co.uk/tenanciesVery interesting ! Have fond memories ( sort of ) for the Clothworkers in Sutton Valence. Great location, but beer sales plummeting by the year - needs a revamp of what is offered to make the most of the simply stunning views of The Weald.

Goodness me, the Kings Head has been improved & refurbed since I was last drinking the Master brew in there. Another great location - quite a lot of money to pay though ?!

Didn't a land lady get fined for doing that a while back? As the article says its £14,000+ per year to show Sky ,if you get caught it's a £10,000 fine . The fine is cheaper so keep showing dodgy channels and hope you only get caught the once. Perhaps if Sky weren't so greedy then pubs wouldn't do it.

Update: The Swan closed ( ? permanently ? ) WEF 30.09.2019 - according to a note on the door - RIP Swan.
Slightly better news, The Coach House due to re open with a bang ( so to speak ), keep watching for the relaunch date.

Slightly better news, The Coach House due to re open with a bang ( so to speak ), keep watching for the relaunch date. Quite a shock walking to the ground yesterday. Only a few days ago it was still open. But there is a glimmer of hope. Normally, when pubs are closed, they're just left as they are, sometimes for years (eg the Cricketers), but whoever has bought the Swan has been very quick to remove the sign and whitewash over the Shepherd Neame bit on the front (although not very well!). This might just be a legal stipulation, but it could also be that the new owner intends to revive it as a pub with another chain (please God, let it be Goachers!), or as a free house? Clutching at straws, I know...

Wasn't the Fisherman's Arms a Shepherd Neame pub that went independent? My one glimmer of hope is you wouldn't get many flats out of the Swan. Yes.

I suppose you could turn it into two flats, just, or do it up and sell it as a house, but you aren't going to make much in that area. Lot of work converting it too. Bit of a mystery, all in all - especially as the new people seemed to have turned it round and made it a much nicer place to have a pint.

I used to play the odd away darts match there ,didnt particularly like the place but to tear it down for a roundabout is pure sacrilege.😥

Hang on, there was a roundabout at the wheatsheaf, that was finally replaced by the traffic lights in around 1998,as the roundabout was causing too many tail backs at peak times! Why build another just over twenty years later??!

This story gets rejigged by the KM every couple of years. I'm pretty sure if I could be bothered to look back through this thread I'd find a link I posted to an almost identical story a year or more ago.
