Great news, I just took my Crystal Ball and it's revealed the following results. And it's so exciting to see we will beat Sutton and in the process go top of the league! So we need to start practising singing "we are top of the league say we are top of the league" at Sutton as they walk off the pitch on a wet April evening (yeah the crystal ball also does weather forecasts).
So basically we'll win 7 of our 8 games, and we'll have a shock defeat at Whitehawk (wouldn't have believed it would be a "shock" defeat just a couple of weeks ago!).
The only thing I wish now is that, since Ebbsfleet have stumbled yesterday against Weston, it would actually be nice if they did beat Sutton after all... that way we can also afford a draw in the mix and still come out on top.
Sutton will jump us on the penultimate day, but on the final day, they'll be held at Oxford and we'll win, yes WIN the NS at our first attempt!
Sat 26th Ebbsfleet 74 Maidstone 70 W vs Hemel P35 Sutton 68 W vs Truro P34

If we win all our games, Sutton win all theirs (apart from us) and Fleet win all theirs (apart from Sutton)...
1. Stones 88 2. Sutton 87 3. Fleet 84
If we win all ours and Fleet beat Sutton...
1. Stones 88 2. Fleet 87 3. Sutton 84
If we draw with Sutton, and we both win all the others...
1. Sutton 88 2. Stones 86 3. Fleet 84
If we draw with Sutton, and Fleet beat Sutton...
1. Fleet 87 2. Stones 86 3. Sutton 85
I think - I'm starting to lose the will to live!
If my aunty had bollocks she'd be my uncle.
It's fecking close. Let's hope we've got the inevitable disaster game out of our system...

I see us finishing with 81pts so 3 wins 2 draws and 1 loss from the remaining games and happy to be in the playoffs

Apologies to dj, but his layout gives me a headache, so this is my version of the run-in:
Sat 2/4: St Albans v STONES SUTTON v Eastbourne FLEET v H&Y
Tue 5/4: STONES v SUTTON
Sat 9/4: STONES v Darts Gate v SUTTON FLEET v Chelmsford
Mon 11/4: SUTTON v BS (last game in hand over Stones)
Sat 16/4: Truro v STONES FLEET v SUTTON
Sat 23/4: Whitehawk v STONES SUTTON v Chelmsford (last games in hand over Fleet)
Sat 30/4: STONES v BS Oxford v SUTTON FLEET v Eastbourne
Taking into account each opposing team’s current position and form, Fleet have the easiest run-in, and us the hardest. Although, as was amply demonstrated on Monday, this means very little at this time of the season.
With Hayes and Yeading and St Albans (and even perhaps Margate, Chelmsford and Bishop Stortford), desperate to avoid relegation, and Truro and Oxford (and even Whitehawk - or Dartford!) possibly needing wins to ensure play-off places, just about every game is going to be difficult. In fact, of the ten other teams we (collectively) face, only Eastbourne and Bishops Stortford are fairly sure of being involved in neither the relegation or play-off battle – and even there there’s no guarantee!
My personal view is that consistency and tenacity are the keys, and I’m afraid that the only team of the three to show either of those is Sutton. As demonstrated by their current 20 game unbeaten run – and the draw away against Whitehawk on Monday, where they came back from 2 down. And, but for the goalie’s lucky injury-time bounce against HH, they would be two points ahead of where they are now – 2nd, only 4 points behind Fleet and with three games in hand – and we’d all be assuming the championship was over.
We (or Fleet) could still do it, of course – remember last season when Margate threw it away and Hendon looked invulnerable almost right up to the death – but for us it would mean winning every game we have left, unless a miracle occurs and the wheels come off at Sutton.
And, of course, second (or even third) place is still one hell of an achievement for our first season in the NS – but, why, just because it IS our first season, should we be ‘grateful’ to settle for second? This is not beginners luck, we didn’t get where we are without earning it – we have as much right as any other team in second place in a league to expect to be able to take the crown.
Here’s hoping that the stats and the expectations are wrong, just as they were last season. As PP say, let’s see if we have the arsehole to win this league!
