That what i thought too until the groundsman doing the watering informed us that its a 4G pitch which needs watering. They are all classified as 3G by FIFA. 4G, 5G etc. are all just labels people use to make theirs sound newer/better than anyone else's.

Because of the speed of the ball along the ground it sounded believable as it can't only be down to a wet surface.

It's a different surface, as dave says, but it's still 3G.

No definitely not, half time only the end they were attacking was watered so they breached the rules.

Because of the speed of the ball along the ground it sounded believable as it can't only be down to a wet surface. Hot weather softens the rubber crumb and slows down the roll and bounce of the ball. Watering not only makes the surface slicker but also cools down the crumb and hardens it back to its normal consistency. Basically it's the same effect that gives tyres more grip once they've heated up.

The whole of the pitch was watered pre game. But yes we definitely only watered the end we were attacking 2nd half which was a bit naughty (not that it helped). Think we need to get a couple of people on the case rather than our reserve goalkeeper!! Don't suppose it will be needed too often in this country mind! TBH in those temperatures I'd suggest the effects of the watering process wear off pretty damn quick.

Good game, different quality to the Ryman league. From Saturday I think the gulf between Ryman and conference south is bigger than I expected. A worldie from Healy, hopefully he can take a few more like that! Good day out, good atmosphere, better in the first half compared to the second half.
Great start to the season! COYS...
