Feels like everyone is getting all very downbeat about the new season already, chin up people!!
Firstly, new signings...let's give Jay a chance to produce the goods it's early days. We've already done great business in having Collin, Worgan, Watt , Parkinson, Flisher, Mills and Phillips tied up. We've added Bodkin who by all accounts was Margate's best player last year as well as adding Leatherheads supporters player of the year to our coaching staff and wider squad.
Given a few more quality signings, which I'm sure Jay will deliver, we'll be in good shape. All those people who said we should have finished higher last year with the players we had have been replaced by the doom merchants about how we won't stack up against other teams!!
Secondly, Margate...let's be clear we don't really know their budget, but I'm not scared at all with who they're signing. Let's not get worried just yet because they sign a few good players, they're hardly signing football league players are they. In fact a lot of their signings are similar to how we've gone about things.
They sign a defender from Woking, yep already done that last year with JP. They sign Bognor's best midfielder, Rooney anyone? They snap up a few good strikers, sounds like us with Frannie last year. All they need now us the best keeper from the league above!!
Good job they're signing players as they've got to make 17 points up against us from last season and we'll definitely be stronger than we were before.
I'm really excited about the new season and feel we'll be there or there abouts this year with a few additions, let's not throw the towel in just yet, it's only May!!!

A touch of realism never hurts and you are spot on regarding our chances for the new season. There's still plenty of time for the other teams 'in the running' to sign and/or lose players

I can only see it as a good thing with Margate spunking all this money away. It'll only heap a huge amount of pressure for them to perform and take it away from everyone else.

Feels like everyone is getting all very downbeat about the new season already, chin up people!! Really? Everyone? As far as I can see reading through the forum the majority either think money doesn't buy a team or it'll end in tears! As favourites everyone will want to beat them and the pressure will be on them At present I'd settle for a play-off spot anyway, as we're not good enough to win the league, but I'll revise that depending who we sign! Happy close season everyone!

Having been described as "typical Maidstone scum" by a Margate fan when my conversation with Jack Parkinson and Mike King was hijacked (on twitter) I did my own reality check......and part of that was working out "what typical Maidstone scum" was.
Ironically the individual who posted this (who was having a bad night all round judging by his open conversation with his girlfriend) had a picture of his hero Jay Saunders in a Margate shirt amongst his collection.
I have nothing against Margate, nothing at all....but in reality they are a long way behind us in terms of the clubs infrastructure. Sure, they'll be the team to beat next season, no doubt.....but a football club is a lot more (imo) than the 1st team.
We have a very successful academy with coaches, that according to the FA, are few and far between in this country. We have facilities whereby premiership footballers come and complete their coaching badges, we have a 1,000 people play on our pitch every week, we have 600-700 season ticket holders, we have owners with vision and initiative to take on the authorities and we average 1800 a game.
Jay and Jack see a big part of the academy is training with the 1st team within the stadium where 1st team games are played and getting used to the environment. They have proved this season it works. How would that work if your training facility was 70 miles from your home ground?
Very easy to throw money at players and give them offers they can't refuse but doesn't that chip away at the football club at it's foundations? It's an opinion, but I think we are a long way ahead of the "money clubs" and if that makes me "typical Maidstone scum" I'll take it.
And for any Margate fans reading, thinking "sour grapes", please carry on with those thoughts as it's not our club losing it's identity, and feel free to read many many other clubs forums where you will see the phrase "it'll end in tears" feature quite a lot. For the record I hope Margate do buck the trend of Whitehawk, Salisbury etc.

with a chairman of a business consultancy at the helm ,The odds of it failing are not impossible but quite unlikely, don't you think?

I don't mind or care what Margate are doing, so long as we have a better side than last season, then I will count that as progress.
Good luck to Margate. Good to see a fellow Kent side showing some ambition and challenging to make the higher reaches of the non-league game. We can hardly complain that they are splashing the cash now can we? We have been the big fish for years, until last season maybe.
I am sure Jay will realise exactly what is needed to improve on last season. I would like to see us playing with far fewer players this season. The revolving door transfer policy unsettles us - unless a top class player becomes available of course!!
The message board bickering between clubs is embarrassing for all parties. I love it when we beat other Kent sides (especially Tonbridge) but all of this mud-slinging is pretty pathetic.

Hopefully next season we will have more referees like Pierluigi Collina and less like Elliot Kaye.

You are trying to make out that my prediction of 8th was really poor because we came seventh. Looking sillier by the second. I would have thought you would want a rest from it in the close season. How wrong I was.
