Not convinced. These are the FA's rules so surely they can't change them mid-season

Not convinced. These are the FA's rules so surely they can't change them mid-season Agree with Ant, whilst I don't want to put a dampner on proceedings I think the meeting at the FA is more to do with overall acceptance of 3G in the league above and by us potentially reaching the play offs it gives us an "audience" with them as it is them who dictate whether we can compete in the play offs or not. As I've said on a previous thread, allowing us to compete in the play offs would actually invite all sorts of other litigation from clubs being relegated from the conference, and even teams around us in the Ryman Prem who would miss out on a place in the play offs. What is key (for me) is the FA, and the Sports Minister seem to be very much onside, and the conference (despite our anti-conference feeling) are suggesting their hands are tied on this and so to allow us to compete in their league next season isn't really probable. The season after next, however, is a totally different concept, and given the news coming out of the club this week regarding ambitions, planning etc, suggests Oliver and Co are quietly confident. It is unlikely 3G will be accepted by a vote next season either as it's clear the clubs voting aren't really voting on the motion being proposed and are voting based on how it effects them (which is totally understandable). The only chance of 3G being accepted by a vote is (as Calais has said previousl) if the conference propose the motion themselves, but then that runs the risk of their credibility being undermined by their own members. So it's the make up of the conference that will be looked at and how you can gain acceptance without the need for a vote and personally i do actually think the conference want to give clubs the choice of having 3G because right now they aren't looking too comfortable with the position they are in, what with many clubs below them now opting to go 3G, and the powers above them urging acceptance, as well as pressure from the person in charge of sport in this country. The foundations are being chipped away whilst the roof is being removed.

Today's Times has an article saying Sport England has cut its grant to the FA by £1.6 million because of the failure to develop the grass roots game; 100,000 fewer people are playing compared to a year ago.
If only there was a way people could be encouraged to play on top quality pitches with 1st class facilities owned by their local non-league clubs, without damaging the playing surface for the first team.

Realistically it's another season in the Ryman anyway. Playoffs are usually won by the form team of the moment which would appear to rule out both us and Dulwich. In fact it's far from certain we will finish in the playoffs anyway.

As it stands, there wouldn't appear to be time for any change to be made for next season unless....
The Conference Board revisit 3G and put the issue back to a vote, making it clear that they support the Motion and expecting the Members to support.Unfortunately, I can't see anything in the Conference's Rules which gives scope for the Board to apply a 'three-line-whip', as it were, so it's (probably) unlikely to happen (as OTU has stated, the damage to their credibility would be severe if, as expected, the Motion was lost.Indeed, it would probably be counter-productive for us, as such an outcome would make the Conference Board very wary of raising the subject again).
Or
The FA revise their 3G policy to remove the requirement for a vote, by the affiliated League, at Step 6 of the Pyramid (Conference North / South).Although the Conference would still have to vote (under their rules), it would put enormous pressure on them to comply with the FA (i.e. it is unlikely that the Conference would want to be seen to be acting against FA Policy).I suspect (I put it no stronger than that) that the outcome would be a fudge - the Conference would change its voting structure so that only the Step 6 clubs voted (most likely in favour), 3G would be adopted in the North / South, and the Conference would be seen to be complying with FA policy whilst giving no ground on the Premier. We would go up, and the issue is put to bed until a 3G club could be promoted to the Premier.Although a long-shot, it is possible that the above could happen....
Realistically, it's another season in the Ryman with (hopefully) all resolved by this time next year, so that we can then go up (assuming we're in a suitable league position!).That would make sense with the ground plans - it would give time for disruptive works to be completed, ready for the larger gates we should achieve in the Conference. I'm learning Calais, I'm learning, Can you do me a favour and check out paragraph 1.8 on the ground grading rules for the conference? There is a paragraph there that I hadn't seen before, is this an addition?

Hello OTU - my apologies; I misread your comment to mean that you were referring to the Rules of the Conference. The document you are referring to is the FA Criteria Document for grounds below Step 4 of the Pyramid (Football League), which is referred to, by the Conference, at Rule 2.3.3.Although it states 'where an artificial surface is installed'. it begins 'the playing surface must be grass, unless otherwise authorised by the Competition's Board of Directors or Management Committee'.For the Conference, that authorisation is the majority vote of the Members.....The criteria for artificial surfaces are included to cover those levels (Step 7 downward) where the use of such surfaces already has FA approval. So the FA are acknowledging the advances and major benefits but I don't understand the point about the matter being under review?

There's a small snippet in today's Telegraph (I only take it for the sports coverage and the crossword, obviously) that the FA have asked the Football League to reconsider their opposition to 3G, so there does seem to be a growing groundswell in favour. If only we had an Eva Peron to mobilise the masses to take to the streets - wonder what Nadine is up to this week?
