My first game was against Weymouth when we got promoted to the old Southern Premier league in the early seventies with the likes of Mickey Angel in the side and went to just about all the home games until our demise in the league and started again when their was a firm commitment to bring the club back home

I saw a couple of games as a kid at London Road but then moved away to Uni and started watching Wolves. The atmosphere and enjoyment of wandering down town on a Saturday to watch a match with my son can't be described, it is something I have always wanted to do and thanks to the Stones coming home I now can.

Saw a handful of games at the old London road ground as a kid then started seriously following them in their first season in the league. Stopped going when they went bust until the season before the Kent league around 2001 ish and have been going ever since. Difficult to believe where we are considering 3 or 4 years ago it seemed like we were close to going bust again. The potential was always there, just needed someone with the foresight to see it......and a little bit of money as well.

OK NWS we forgive you for starting the Oldies and Newbies thing!!!! When you get transported to ' The Colonies' for your sins, it is real hard to travel to the outer reaches of Kent to follow your Home team even if you wanted to! Until the invention of the Internet I never got to many games in the past 40yrs but thanks to Stones Live and MUTV we now get highlights. Great credit to all the Folks who kept the team going - Ted Winter would of been so proud to have seen the new Stadium and the Fans. I see you guys are playing in Europe ( well Calais ) soon. England 'C' are playing the Bermuda National team here tomorrow night. Ebbs fleet and Dover Goalkeepers are in the England squad. We don't get many International games over here but if The Stones ever wanted to go 'International' on a pre- season tour - I have plenty of Beer and some contacts!

There are people who tell lies, have silly tempers, sulk and swear etc on here that will pretend I started it but it simply ain't true. I laughed at it and mocked it a little and those people (who have a form of syndrome that takes everything literally) believed the mocking to be serious. I really wouldn't run with such rivets if I were you, BS.

Sorry - I stand corrected . But are not those the traits of all football supporters to wind everyone up - even if you are on the same side ?? Just got in from the England C International game. Bermuda kids held up well at 1-2 at half time but ended up losing 1-6. Nahki Wells would have made a difference but apparently was not available due to the girls beach volleyball tournament he had to attend on Horseshoe Bay - must have been much more 'Riveting ' than this Forum ? Just a Chuckle.

Being 32 and living in Marbella for 10 years now, i for about 7 was a Gills season ticket holder, but being born in old Maidstone hosp and living in Aylesford for the 1st 17 years of my live I have always been proud of where i come from.... Just wanted to watch some league football and was too young to know the difference.. will always consider myself to be a Gills follower, however, will always be a Maidstone United SUPPORTER!! so stones #1!! They are my excuses and i´m sticking to em!

The post above is a sad consequence of the club's demise...too many in Maidstone supporting Gillingham, and claiming it's fine to like both
(not a dig at Marbellastone)

Can you point me to the section of the Football Supporters Rule Book where it says it's not fine to support two clubs? I support West Ham and Maidstone and I'm worried that I'll incur a fine or worse - some barbed banter - if I don't mend my wicked ways. Smiley face - only a joke - humorous post - etc.

Well, someone really has missed the point.
I'm sure someone's on the West Ham forum saying they like West Ham and Millwall??
My point was, Maidstone's demise has led to many in the town (particularly of the "lost generation") supporting Gillingham, totally oblivious to any rivalry

Hmmm ... I may have missed the point a tad but if I found myself down that way on a Saturday afternoon (unlikely) I would have no qualms about going to watch Millwall play ... and even cheering them on. Too much is made of local rivalry in my opinion - I went to see The Gills get promoted when they beat Torquay 1-0 (Stones were away) with my wife and father-in-law (both lifelong Gills fans) and it was great day. The Stones may have lost fans to the Gills but surely they are now back in force. Celebrate it. I just want to be able to support my local side by turning up and paying my money without having to explain what football matches I've been to in the last ten years. Are high-flying Gillingham aware of this local rivalry?

I have been soundly thrashed (ooh matron!!!) for suggesting we may be somewhat below Gillingham's radar.

Well my acquaintances who live in Maidstone but are Gillingham season ticket holders are certainly aware of it - and are certainly not back in force. They may not be overly bothered about us because at present we post no threat, but rivalry exists between local towns all over the world - not just on the football pitch
For some reason, Gillingham consider Swindon their main rivals
