Sod coaches. What about shiny supporters club badges? Actually membership cards too. And cake. Plenty of functions with cake.

I thought drinking on football coaches was against the law. It is, and no decent coach company will ignore it. Do you want to attract families and new supporters or boozed up middle aged men?

only a question would the coach travel be aimed at drinkers or all fans? as the ramsgate coach left at 11.30 and by the time the match kicked off some fans seemed well oiled to say the least. Good question.....its a fine line, even i thought that leaving at 11.30 for the ramsgate game was a touch early, and i like a beer before the game, but your not going to please everyone, my thoughts are arrive around 90 minutes before kck off sample the local inns, if we win, large it up in there bar if we lose jump back on the coach and head home...... but i thought the post was about a supporters club, not shall we get pissed on away games... with all the new support and the amount of young kids we are getting through the gate, lets not miss or chance of grabbing them for life, mum and dads have brought them the hats and scarfs, for anoher fiver, the kids get a shiny supporters club badge a signed picture of a player and other goodies, for us oldier ones a tenner for a little bit of discount on your stones clothing, away travel and just having a voice within "OUR ClUB"

This was meant to be a debate about starting up a Supporters Club of which away travel was part of it but as it seems some of our supporters seem to have the wrong idea about the 'drinkers'
I ran coaches a season or two back and was a quite a success but getting numbers was difficult, having the backing of the SC meant that sometimes these ran at a loss and sometimes made a profit. Over the course of the season we just about broke even.
We usually left to get to the ground between 1 and 1.30 and left at 5.30pm, this usually allowed time for any traffic problems, as nobody would want to miss the start of the match.
There wasn't a drinking culture and most that used this facility would have 2 or 3 drinks before the match and 1 after. Obviously, that would be too many to drive therefore making the coach a more social experience, there were many families and kids on board!
This idea that coaches are full of middle age drinkers is ridiculous, and needs to be put to rest!
Can we please get back to the debate on the supporters club, of which away travel is just a part!

There was a question asking if drinking on football coaches is illegal.
It is illegal.

Do you want to attract families and new supporters or boozed up middle aged men? Both, surely. The more the merrier?

There was a question asking if drinking on football coaches is illegal. It is illegal. It is illegal, and just to be clear it hasn't happened on any Stones coach that I'm aware of, and I've been on most of them over the last few years. I would concur with Tim's view that the coaches are a good way to get to away games and that the atmosphere on the coaches is generally pretty cheerful and mostly well behaved. Whilst I'm here, I'll cast my vote in favour of an independent supporters club.

I have been on most of the supporters coaches to away games and found the rest of the people on the coach to be friendly and in no way rolling around the coach pissed, the coach to Bedford was brilliant and it had a good mixture of supporters, young and old, so please lets not get distracted about a so called drinking culture on the coaches and get behind the formation of an independent supporters club

Could I suggest a meeting tomorrow before/after the game tomorrow? We do need an independent club not only for coaches, but we have also completely fallen away with fundraising now and I believe we should still be actively supporting the club, whether it's to raise money for a new toilet block/ terracing or scoreboard. Having a target was a great incentive last time around and we should try to avoid losing this momentum as the club still needs our support.

Is fundraising for the club really for the supporters club? I thought BTSH was going to continue under a different guise for something like this.
All things to be discussed at a meeting I guess...although I think tomorrow may be short notice for anything formal/official.
